Job opportunity

The Australian National University is looking for an oral historian to lead a project identifying and supporting oral history collections.

The two-year position as Research Project Manager is being offered by ANU’s School of Literature, Languages and Linguistics. The successful applicant will lead the oral history project that forms part of the Language Data Commons of Australia, working to identify and support language collections.

The deadline for applications is 2 February 2026.

For the past two years this position has been held by one of our members Anisa Puri. As part of that work Anisa ran a pilot project identifying precarious oral history collections in Victoria. The final report and related online database is available at:

The new Research Project Manager will build on Anisa’s work by:

  • leading a project to identify precarious oral history collections across NSW and the ACT
  • identifying and undertaking the next steps for the Victorian project, looking to how best support the collections that have been identified
  • determining the appropriate next steps toward identification and further support for oral history collections over the two-year period of the position and beyond.

The position is for a fixed term of up to two years, 28 hours (four days) per week (negotiable).
