Accommodation

Coming from regional Victoria, interstate or overseas? Naarm/Melbourne offers an abundance of short-stay accommodation options. Oral History Australia has arranged a few discounted options close by the conference venue to suit a variety of needs and budgets.

These include on-campus accommodation at University College and several nearby small hotels. These can all be reached by the number 19 tram and/or a short walk.

All accommodation is subject to availability. Some have dynamic rates which means that the price fluctuates depending on when you book.

University College, University of Melbourne

University College is a residential college servicing University of Melbourne located just 500m from the Conference Venue (approx. 7-min walk). OHA has secured 30 single occupancy rooms and one accessible suite for conference participants.

Location: 40 College Crescent, Parkville VIC 3052

Accessibility: One accessible room accessed by lift.

Price point: $91 per night

Conditions: Minimum stay two nights, maximum five nights

Breakfast: Hot and continental daily breakfast included. (Other meals available onsite at additional cost)

Note: Rooms have double beds but are single occupancy only. Towels and bedding provided.

Veriu Hotel, Queen Victoria Market

Located on the doorstep of Melbourne’s famous Queen Victoria Market and just a 4-minute tram ride to the Conference Venue on the no.19 tram (9-min door-to-door), this self-contained apartment accommodation is a foodie’s delight. Indulge in fresh produce, coffee and delicious market eats in the comfort of your own room or enjoy the market’s character-filled ambience. 

Location: 91 Therry Street, Melbourne (2km from Trinity College)

Type: Self-contained apartments with ensuite + kitchenette. Twin, king, accessible and quad rooms.

Price Point: From $204 per night* per suite. *Dynamic discounted rate, subject to change.

Breakfast: No breakfast service but Melbourne’s most famous market is right outside the foyer.

In the middle of the page above the heading UPDATE GUESTS & ROOMS you will see a very small downward arrow (on the right-hand side). Novotel on Collins

Fancy a bit of shopping between conference sessions? Located in the heart of Melbourne’s fashionable Collins Street, the Novotel on Collins offers the amenities and service of a large four-star hotel while being only 20 mins from the Conference Venue (by no.19 tram).

Location: 270 Collins Street, Melbourne

Type: Queen room with ensuite

Price Point: Average room rate $270 per night (room only) based on four-night stay.

Breakfast: Room only rates do not include breakfast. Bed & Breakfast rate includes buffet breakfast for one. Additional breakfast $28pp per day.

Non-discounted options

Naughtons Hotel

A historic gastropub located directly opposite Trinity College on Royal Parade, this is the closest accommodation to the Conference Venue.

Location: 43 Royal Parade, Parkville.  Literally across the road from Trinity College!

Type: Nine standard guest rooms with ensuite (twin, double, queen options)

Price Point: $155-195 per night per room

Breakfast: The pub does not serve breakfast but there is café around the corner that does.

Note: this is an active pub operating 12 noon to 10pm Tues-Sun. While the pub’s student patronage will have largely disappeared by late November, there may be private events with music until approximately 11pm at night.

Larwill Studio Melbourne, Arts Series Hotel

This quirky contemporary 4-star boutique hotel is part of the Melbourne Arts Series Hotel Collection. About a 16-min walk to Trinity College (if you cut through Royal Park), longer by public transport.
