10.30   Lana Best, Everyone has a story – the role of the media in oral history

Lana Best is an award-winning photo-journalist of more than 40 years in Tasmania, best known for her profile pieces in community newspapers that tell the stories of ordinary but inspiring Tasmanians. She is currently the editor of the Tasmania’s only statewide newspaper, Tasmanian Country. Lana will share her tips on how to conduct interviews, capture information and disseminate it in a way that reaches the maximum audience. She will also explain interview techniques, how to write for a broad readership and record oral history for multiple platforms.

11.30   Tabatha Badger MP

Past and present perceptions – uncovering the legacy of Florence Perrin (1884-1952)

Tabatha Badger is the author of Wildflowers, Weeds and Wilderness: the legend of Florence Perrin. Despite having a significant influence on local society and our environment, Perrin’s story was largely lost in contemporary history. One important reason for this is that Perrin died before an interview could be recorded with her. Tabatha has been able to piece together the oral histories of those around her, past and present, to uncover the facts, and the fiction, of this remarkable Tasmanian.
